The Future Platforms Quality Assurance (QA) team tests and monitors the work that we develop to ensure it’s always delivered to the highest standard.
Paul Foy is a Senior QA who works endlessly to make sure our products are intuitive and engaging, and result in a positive user experience.
What do you do at Future Platforms and what is your favourite part about your role?
I am a Senior QA Engineer providing testing support across multiple apps for both Android and iOS solutions. One of the main positives at Future Platforms is that there is a true sense of pride in the overall quality of the apps that we produce and the importance of a positive end user experience. The ability to contribute to this high level of quality and having ownership over what we release to the public is exceptionally rewarding.
Tell us a bit about your journey and how you got here:
My personal QA journey started in 2008 when I was lucky enough to work with a notable video game publisher at their Madrid offices during my summer break from university. This was a valuable introduction to the world of software quality and led to further post-degree experiences within the gaming industry, first in Frankfurt and then back home in London.
After this, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and explore the wider world of software QA by joining a consultancy agency that allowed me to gain a lot more experience across a variety of different industries and technologies. I continued along my path with other Senior and Lead QA roles, alongside some contract work, at a varied selection of companies until I arrived at Future Platforms.
What projects are you most excited to work on and why?
I am always excited to work on products that have a wide reach across the market and where users can gain the most benefit from our work. I enjoy helping to build these products from the ground up or even exploring and diagnosing issues within a pre-existing one. A little bit of detective work can be quite fun when trying to find the root cause of some of these problems and presenting a viable solution to the team.
It’s always exciting to work on big projects but it’s just as enlightening working on lesser-known platforms that perform a vital, but often unsung, function within a bigger system.
What/who inspires you?
As the technology around us continues to rapidly evolve, we are exposed to a variety of experiences that can be either satisfying or frustrating to a user. Every time I personally encounter an app or website with quality issues, it reminds me of how important our role is. As a result, it is rewarding when we work hard on a product and then receive positive feedback from clients or from user reviews.
Finally, what would your superpower be?
Telekinesis would definitely be my ideal superpower. The idea of being able to move things with your mind has endless appeal and possibilities (including a sneaky way of including the power of flight, without being limited to it). I’m a sucker for any game or movie which features a depiction of such powers, even if it’s just to make a nice cup of tea.
“Paul is an excellent QA tester with strong technical knowledge and a wide range of experience. Paul always welcomes and is ready to take on a new challenge, and he has proven time and again that he is a valuable asset to the company.”
