Meet the Team: Office Manager, Johan

In this month's Meet the Team, we get to know another one of our team members.

Our office management team ensures the smooth running of our office and staff – quite frankly, we don’t know where we would be without them!

Johan van der Steen is one of our extremely talented staff that is not only looking after our office operations but is helping our various departments function as well. We found out how he got here.

What do you do at Future Platforms and what is your favourite part about your role?

I’m Future Platforms’ Office Manager, so I look after our office and assist the team with all sorts. The best bit of the role is that I have a bit of regular interaction with everyone in the company. I work on my own solo projects relating to the office, but I also have involvement with the finance, HR, marketing, IT, and PM teams.

Tell us a bit about your journey and how you got here:

Not much to say! When I finished university after doing a business degree, I did a small internship as an account assistant in a data warehouse which was…not the most exciting thing in the world. I had a friend working at Future Platforms who mentioned an Admin Assistant role, so I applied and got the job! Now, five years later, I’m the Office Manager.

What projects are you most excited to work on and why?

As an Office Manager, my role has changed quite a bit in the past year with remote working becoming the norm, but it’s allowed me to work on some exciting new projects. Hopefully, we can open a new office in 2021 and, either way, I will plan lots of fun social activities – even if they are virtual or socially distanced meetups!

What/who inspires you?

I’m inspired by the idea of perfection! It’s something we can never achieve but if we aim for perfection then there will always be room for improvement (cliché, I know).

Finally, what would your superpower be?

Definitely mind control, though I’d probably end up being a super-villain for abusing my powers for selfish reasons (hey, nobody is perfect).
