Technical partner in delivering an informative and inspirational travel app

Telegraph Travel saw an opportunity to further service consumers by providing their award winning travel content on apps designed to use while on holiday, with content curated from their award winning travel website. They wanted the app to offer consumers exclusive Telegraph holiday guides via iOS devices, and whilst having UX and design capabilities in-house, Telegraph Media Group also needed Future Platforms to provide in-depth mobile and backend development solutions to quickly deliver a native iOS app.

A technical solution designed to handle a content rich app

We worked collaboratively with the Telegraph Media Group UX and Design team in strict adherence to the Telegraph’s tight design and layout specification. The technical solution designed by ourselves was planned to reliably handle large downloads and updates of complex data structures over mobile networks.

Within a short turnaround time, using the back end structure we designed, we created a content rich app with functionality that includes recommended itineraries, city guides, easy-to-use interactive maps, and all of the key information, such as phone numbers, prices, websites and booking advice at a users fingertips.

We need to create a polished, focused experience for our travel app and working with Future Platforms we were able to deliver just that. We had a tight deadline to work to, and a lot of parts to co-ordinate, which the FP team responded to brilliantly. I was particularly pleased with how our staff and the FP team were able to work together; we really felt like a team and that helped us deliver a product which exceeded all our expectations.

Positive customer feedback points to a successful partnership

The overall project process and development of the Telegraph Travel Guides app is being heralded as a huge internal success due to a highly collaborative team approach between Future Platforms and Telegraph Media Group. The end result is an elegant, responsive final product, with plans to produce more country and city guides following a positive response from consumers. The app has received 4 star reviews and over 100,000 downloads to date, which displays a job well done after an efficient eight week turnaround.
