We worked together with an in-house team from the BBC and developers at Facebook to create an experimental HTML5 web app at a the Radio 1 Big Weekend. The app’s purpose was to test consumer attitudes towards digital check-ins for big events, and the potential privacy concerns around this.
We contributed to the project by providing all mobile design and development, build of a dedicated CMS for the product, hosting the service, carrying out functional and load testing, and implementing integration with Facebook and the BBC.
We began by building a mobile web site for the attendees of the event which was geographically restricted, so it could only be accessed from the venue. From this site attendees could check in to individual stages and have their presence recorded and reported via Facebook. The social data was then aggregated into stats visualised on the bbc.co.uk web site.
The project produced interesting findings in the field of event check-ins, something that has since featured more heavily in live events.
