Sussex Enterprise today announced the launch of their service for owners of Palm devices and PocketPCs. Visitors to the Sussex Enterprise web site can now bookmark pages that interest them onto their handhelds and read them at their leisure, using free tools from AvantGo Inc., a leading provider of mobile enterprise software.

The new website offers all Sussex firms the latest information about running their business, the latest information on starting and running their business, including the latest thinking on skills, training, employment, company and property law.

The site boasts a free to enter Sussex business directory containing more than 45,000 business contacts, online booking for Sussex Enterprise events and online membership services for its members. Matt Jackson, Head of Marketing, says, "If you're doing business in Sussex this site will help you achieve success. So add it to your favorites list today!"

Brighton-based Future Platforms are the company responsible for designing and building this service, which dovetails onto the existing Sussex Enterprise web site and integrates with the Josephine content management system supplied by Runtime Collective.

Sussex Enterprise PDA service

"Josephine is Runtime Collective's industry standard Java framework for developing enterprise applications. It is specifically designed to be easily integrated with clients' existing IT systems. Being open source, Josephine is being adopted by a growing number of companies looking to benefit from this robust and scalable platform", said Sophie Major of Runtime Collective.

"We've worked with many content management systems over the years, and the openness of Josephine delighted us", added Tom Hume, Managing Director, Future Platforms. "Integrating a new feature like the Sussex Enterprise handheld service was surprisingly straightforward".

Further plans for the service include the addition of content specifically targeted at handheld owners, perhaps through a sponsor or other third party; promotions and surveys carried out through the channel; and analysis of which content handheld owners find most compelling.

"Mobile phones are an important part of everyday life in the UK, and mobile data is where we'll see growth and innovation in coming years", Tom Hume commented, "Anyone whose business involves communication can benefit from examining the opportunities mobile data presents"
