ICUE's book publishing service is recognised for its simple use of innovative technologies.
Our congratulations to ICUE, who have been awarded the prestigious Red Herring 100 Europe award, which acknowledges the year's top 100 new companies for innovation and technology. ICUE had the vision to launch a service that enables mobile phone users to store and read entire book collections on their handsets, using the latest research in reading techniques.
Future Platforms have been responsible for the interaction design and technical development of their service. It was designed to be very intuitive: a WAP portal lets customers download new books to the phone and these are delivered as self-contained Java applications. The application lets the reader control the display method (word by word, ticker-tape or paged) and reading speed.
ICUE's ease of use and technical innovation had already been praised by the Guardian and the Times. Beyond awards and praise, they have already signed-up 80% of UK publishers, including McMillan and Harper Collins.
