We've just finished the mobile version of Popcorn Catch, a Flash game produced by Leeds digital agency DS Emotion for the Disney Channel.
"Future Platforms have been great to work with on this project, working
with us to figure out all gameplay and graphical elements at the beginning of the project -
then delivering all versions of the game on time and on budget."
- Chris Hassell, New Media Director
The game is an ideal fit with mobile phones: fast-paced, quick to pick up, easily dipped into (and out of), with cartoon 3D-style graphics and a simple play mechanic. Players have to run around the living room, catching popcorn as it falls from the ceiling - drop 3 pieces and you're finished! It also keeps track of your best score, giving the game a bit more long-term appeal...
Working closely with the designers at DS, we advised them on how the game might best be rejigged for a mobile audience: the playing area was reduced in size (allowing us to keep their gorgeous cartoon-style graphics quite large), graphics reworked from vector to bitmap formats, and the play mechanic simplified to get around the restrictions of using a mobile keypad.
