Future Platforms have developed a mobile prototype for the Emerging Platforms division of BBC New Media & Technology. The prototype is called RadioMate and is designed to be a companion for radio listeners - enhancing their experience.

RadioMate combines different data sources into a single, simple interface:

• The programme schedule for all the BBC's radio channels;

• Webcam feeds from the studios;

• DAB text from the digital radio broadcast;

RadioMate also enables the mobile user to send messages to the studio over Http (cheaper than SMS).

Future Platforms supported and advised the BBC's producers and designers. We have delivered the prototype as a J2ME downloadable application that can run on most Nokia series 40 handsets.
